Understanding Metrics

Detailed explanations of all performance metrics used on PerpsTracker.

PnL (Profit and Loss)

The total profit or loss in USD for the period. Calculated as the sum of all closed position results.

  • Positive (Green): Net profit
  • Negative (Red): Net loss

Volume

Total value of all positions opened (in USD). Higher volume indicates more active trading but doesn't necessarily mean better performance.

Win Rate

Percentage of trades that were profitable. Formula: (Winning Trades / Total Trades) × 100

  • Above 60%: Very good
  • 50-60%: Good
  • Below 50%: May still be profitable if winners are larger than losers

ROI (Return on Investment)

Percentage return relative to capital deployed. Formula: (Total PnL / Total Collateral Used) × 100

ROI shows how efficiently a trader uses their capital. A trader with high ROI but low PnL might be capital-efficient but small-scale.

Sharpe Ratio

Risk-adjusted return metric. Higher is better. Formula: (Average Return - Risk-Free Rate) / Standard Deviation of Returns

  • Above 2.0: Excellent risk-adjusted returns
  • 1.0-2.0: Good risk-adjusted returns
  • Below 1.0: Poor risk-adjusted returns

A Sharpe ratio of 2.0 means the trader earns 2 units of return for every unit of risk taken.

Average Leverage

Mean leverage used across all positions. Indicates risk appetite and trading style.

  • 1-5x: Conservative
  • 5-20x: Moderate
  • Above 20x: Aggressive
💡 Tip: Don't judge traders solely on one metric. Look for a combination of high Sharpe ratio, consistent win rate, and sustainable leverage.

Common Pitfalls to Avoid

  • Blindly Copying Trades: Top traders may have different risk tolerance, capital, and goals
  • Only Looking at Short Timeframes: 24h leaders might just be lucky. Check longer timeframes
  • Ignoring Risk Metrics: High PnL with terrible Sharpe ratio means unsustainable risk-taking
  • Overtrading Based on Live Feed: Not every trade you see is worth following
